Christmas just ended and some of us may be ready to hoist the Christmas tree out the door, especially if the tree needles are shedding on the floor and the tree is getting too dry.
Christmas tree collection in Alexandria will begin on Monday, Jan. 3 and collected through the whole month. The last day of tree collection will be Monday, Jan. 31.
Christmas trees can be recycled curbside by City residents who receive trash collection services from the City. Trees should be set at your regular yard waste collection point, on your trash collection day. Trees collected during this time will be ground into mulch and available to residents in the spring.
To prepare trees for collection, residents are reminded to:
- Remove all ornaments, tinsel and stands.
- Do not place in plastic bags.
- Place the tree at your regular yard waste collection point by 6:00 am on your refuse collection day.
In Fairfax County, Christmas trees will be collected from Jan. 3 to Jan. 14, 2022 for recycling. Lights, decorations and stands must be removed to ensure collection. After Jan. 14, residents are asked to schedule a brush Special Pickup to have the Christmas tree removed.
