Voters in the City of Alexandria will head to the polls Tuesday, June 11 for a primary election.
There is no Republican Party primary election in Alexandria this June. Instead, the local Republican Party will hold a party canvass (meeting) to nominate its candidates for the upcoming November election. That meeting is Thursday, June 6 at Minnie Howard School.
Voters in Virginia are not required to register by party, so any person registered to vote in Alexandria may vote in the June 11 primary election.
On the ballot:
Clerk of Circuit Court
- Greg Parks has worked as an attorney for federal agencies for the past 20 years. Parks has been endorsed by Mayor Justin Wilson and former Mayor Bill Euille. Parks has also been endorsed by state Sen. Adam Ebbin and Del. Mark Levine. Others who have endorsed him include Alexandria Commwealth's Attorney Bryan Porter; former Commonwealth Attorney Randy Sengel and Sheriff Dana Lawhorne.
- He is running against Ben Ortiz, who currently serves as a deputy clerk of court. Ortiz has been endorsed by his boss Edward Semonion, 86, who held the job for 40 years, as well as by former Mayor Kerry Donley.
Once elected, the clerk of court holds the job for eight years.
