A cold mist didn't deter scores of Alexandrians from lining the streets of Old Town Monday afternoon to see a parade of horses, antique cars, music and more to celebrate George Washington's 286th birthday.
The George Washington Birthday Parade on Monday, Feb. 19 was the central event in the birthday celebration weekend. Alexandria has been celebrating the first president's birthday since the 1800s.
Other events throughout the weekend included the announcement of the winner of the annual Cherry Challenge chef battle, a Revolutionary War reenactment at Fort Ward and several museum open houses.
