Construction on the new Patrick Henry School in Alexandria's West End is progressing, and students are expected to attend classes there early next year.
The new school turns Patrick Henry from a K-5 to a K-8 school, adding middle school capacity to Alexandria. The existing building on Taney Avenue was built in the 1950s and added to in the 1970s.
The new school is being built around the old school, and the old school will be demolished after students move to the new building.
Alexandria City Public Schools released this time-lapse video of the construction from its start through this month.
