This is part of a series of stories updating the status of various development projects in and around Alexandria.
About a year ago, Monday Properties proposed tearing down a medical office building at 1900 N. Beauregard St. and replacing it with a multifamily residential community.
After active opposition from community residents, the project seemed to go on hold — but it's back now and moving forward.
The building is one of four similar buildings along the west side of North Beauregard Street, all owned by the company, but only the one at 1900 N. Beauregard St. was part of the new redevelopment proposal. Future plans for the other three buildings have not been disclosed.
Major tenant Alexandria Dermatology Associates moved out in January of this year. Another major tenant, the City of Alexandria Workforce Development Center, moved to the nearby city government building on Mark Center Drive.
The new apartment building will have 345 units, including about 15 affordable units, Annandale Today reported. The project could go before government officials for approvals in early 2025.
