Mayor Justin Wilson is aiming to keep his seat when Alexandria voters head to the polls this fall. Wilson announced his re-election campaign this morning in a fundraising email to supporters.
“The health, human and economic challenges facing our City will require our best ideas and collaboration. I am proud of how we have weathered this storm, but we must now lead the recovery. With that optimism for the City’s future, I am excited to seek your support to serve a second term as your Mayor,” Wilson wrote in the email.
So far, it does not appear that Wilson has any challengers who have filed official paperwork to run for Mayor. The filing deadline is in late March, so there is still time for challengers to submit paperwork.
A citywide primary is set for June 8, and the election is on Nov. 2, when voters will also choose a new governor of Virginia and other state representation. Each council member and the mayor serve three-year terms.
Wilson will have a new vice mayor, as Elizabeth Bennett-Parker is vacating her council seat and vice mayoral position to run for delegate. In addition, Redella (Del) Pepper is retiring from City Council.
