The access road along King Street west of the Quaker-Braddock-King intersection may be getting a major overhaul.
City Council will consider turning the access road that runs between South Taylor Street west to Menokin Drive from its current two-way configuration to one-way westbound. The other lane would become a dedicated bus transit lane.
East of that section, from Quaker Lane to South Taylor Street, the configuration would remain two-ways, but with fewer lanes. (See the images below.)
In addition, the city would widen the sidewalk outside the shopping center and add a two-way bicycle lane, making that area a bit safer for pedestrians and bicyclists.
Residents and shopping center patrons have long complained that drivers make wide and too-fast turns onto the access road, and use it to avoid traffic on King Street.
City council will take up the matter at its meeting Tuesday evening, Oct. 8.
