J. Greg Parks won Tuesday's Democratic primary for Alexandria's Clerk of Circuit Court race, with 56 percent of the vote to challenger Ben Ortiz's 44 percent of the vote.

- Ortiz: 3,299
"Congratulations to Greg Parks on securing the Democratic Nomination to be Alexandria’s next Clerk of the Circuit Court!" Mayor Justin Wilson tweeted out Tuesday night. "I look forward to working with you to serve our residents. Thanks to Ben Ortiz for his candidacy and his service to our community!"
Parks, an attorney, was endorsed by Wilson, former Mayor Bill Euille, and all but one of the members of the Alexandria City Council. Also endorsing him were State Sen. Adam Ebbin and Del. Mark Levine.
In addition, Parks was endorsed by Alexandria Commonwealth’s Attorney Bryan Porter, the city’s lead prosecutor; former Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Sengel; Sheriff Dana Lawhorne; and two members of the Alexandria School Board, Meagan Alderton and Jacinta Greene.
Ortiz was endorsed by his boss, Edward Semonion, 86, who held the Clerk of Court job for 40 years. Ortiz serves as deputy clerk of court. Ortiz was also endorsed by former Mayor Kerry Donley.
Parks has worked as an attorney for federal agencies for the past 20 years.
The clerk of court holds the job for eight years.
