For more than a year, construction workers have been laying the groundwork — literally — for a new hospital in Alexandria.
Utilities, sewer systems, significant land grading and other prep work is nearly complete at the 51-acre site of the former Landmark Mall. The first building to start construction will be the new Inova Alexandria hospital, the Washington Business Journal reported.
"In addition to Inova Health Systems relocating its existing hospital from Seminary Road to a new, 194-bed facility with a Cancer Research Center, and Specialty Care Center, Foulger Pratt is developing 4 million square feet of multi-family residential, retail, commercial, and entertainment offerings on the site," according to the Alexandria Economic Development Partnership.
Landmark Mall was demolished in May 2022 to make way for the new development.
The below map shows the entire 51-acre site with mixed use buildings (retail and residential, light blue), the hospital campus (dark blue) and residential (tan).
The hospital currently located off of Seminary Road will be demolished and likely become a residential development.
