Inova will break ground on its new campus at the WestEnd Alexandria (formerly Landmark) development next week.
The building will be the first to start rising on the 51-acre site with a 192-bed hospital, a Level 2 trauma center, a cancer center, and a specialty care center and other services. The new hospital will open in 2028.
Much closer to completion is the Oakville Triangle Healthplex, which will open in November. A ribbon-cutting ceremony is set for October 31. The facility will include an emergency room, outpatient care center and medical offices. It is also part of a larger development that includes residential, retail and restaurants along the border of Del Ray and Potomac Yard.
To help pay for some of this, Inova has launched a new fundraising campaign with a goal of $500 million. The Do. More. Together campaign is focused on four initial pillars: Cancer, Heart and Vascular, Behavioral Health, and Inova’s Greatest Need, which currently includes the renovation of the Fairfax Emergency Department—the nation’s fourth busiest—as well as development projects in the Alexandria, Mount Vernon and Franconia-Springfield communities.
The campaign will count all philanthropic contributions since Jan. 1, 2023, including those who donated to the Schar Challenge over the last year. Inova already has more than $170 million in philanthropic contributions towards this goal, which it would like to reach by the end of 2029.
"With this campaign, we are led by our shared vision for how philanthropy can drive care and innovation forward for the patients and families we serve," said Sage Bolte, PhD, LCSW, CST, FAOSW, Chief Philanthropy Officer and President of the Inova Health Foundation.
