Inova Health System and DPR Construction celebrated a milestone in the construction of the new Inova Health Center – Oakville.
Wednesday's "topping out" ceremony was the continuation of a long-standing tradition in the construction industry that marks the placement of the final structural beam on top of a building.
To celebrate the occasion, Inova and DPR Construction held a brief ceremony on site attended by key stakeholders, including hospital staff and construction workers.
The new Health Center is an outpatient facility that will include a full-service emergency room, ambulatory (outpatient) surgery, imaging services, primary care, and medical offices. The new facility is designed to create a welcoming and healing environment for patients and their families and will complement Inova’s existing full-service acute care hospital in Alexandria.
"This is an exciting day for Inova, as we move one step closer to opening our new Health Center," said J. Stephen Jones, MD, FACS, President and CEO of Inova. "We want to thank DPR Construction and the entire team for their hard work and dedication in bringing this project to life. We look forward to the day when we can welcome patients and their families to our new facility."
The Inova Health Center is the anchor tenant in Stonebridge, Carras Partners’ redevelopment project of the Alexandria’s Oakville triangle.
Oakville Triangle is bounded by Mount Jefferson Park, Route 1, Calvert Avenue and Fannon Street, just west of Potomac Yard and east of Del Ray. The area will include multifamily residential apartments and retail, the Inova facility, a new park and townhomes. The self-storage facility will remain in place.
Construction on the new Health Center began in August 2021. The project is on track to be completed by Fall 2024.
