Virginia is one of the 14 states participating in "Super Tuesday" -- the single largest primary voting day in the United States.
Where to Vote
You can look up your polling location here. Please keep in mind that your location may have changed since you last voted.
How to Vote
In Virginia, polls open at 6 a.m. and will close at 7 p.m. (If you're in line at 7 p.m., you can still vote).
You will need a valid photo identification to vote in the primary. If you do not have a valid photo ID, you can submit a provisional ballot. Valid photo IDs may include those that are issued by the government (license, passport, state issued ID), employer or school. See the full list of acceptable IDs here.
If you received an absentee ballot, those must be turned in by 7 p.m. Tuesday.
On the Ballot
Only the Democrats running for president will be on the ballot on Tuesday. The primaries for U.S. House and Senate in Virginia will take place on June 9.
Because of the speed at which campaigns operate, the ballot will include some candidates who have suspended their campaigns -- this includes Pete Buttigieg, who announced Monday he was suspending his campaign after a poor performance in the South Carolina primary. Sen. Amy Klobuchar also suspended her campaign Monday. Both Buttigieg and Klobuchar threw their support behind Biden.
Others who have suspended their campaigns, including Cory Booker, Julian Castro and others, will also be on the ballot.
Virginia is one of the unique states that allows any registered voter to participate in the presidential primary. Don't be surprised if you see your Republican and Independent neighbors at the polls on Tuesday.
The campaigns that remain active (in alphabetical order) are those of:
- Former Vice President Joe Biden
- Former NYC Mayor Michael Bloomberg
- U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard
- Sen. Bernie Sanders
- Sen. Elizabeth Warren

Who's the Projected Winner?
We don't know! The Alexandria Dems conducted a straw poll recently showing a strong win by former Vice President Joe Biden. The Fairfax County Democratic Committee saw a straw poll win by former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg. A straw poll earlier in February by the Mount Vernon Dems also put Bloomberg in first place.
A poll from Feb. 18 from resulted in a tie between Biden, Bloomberg and Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders.
