Back before the COVID-19 pandemic, a developer planned to build a five-story hotel at the site of the 1950s Old Towne Motel at 808 N. Washington St.
In 2020, the 1800s townhouse at 802 N. Washington St. was moved by Wolfe House & Building Movers, LLC, a company that specializes in moving structures with historic significance. (Read about the house's history here.)
After the move, the developer started work on the underground garage.
And then... it stopped. Very little has been done on the project since 2021, mostly due to financial constraints.
Now, it looks like plans for the hotel have been scrapped, and a new developer plans to build a multi-family building on the site, the Washington Business Journal reported. However, like the original project, there are potential "financial constraints."
Point Alexandria Investments is the applicant for the plans, which would require rezoning, and PT Blooms is a partner in the new proposed project. PT Blooms is also planning to build a 78-unit multifamily building at 805-823 N. Columbus St., directly west of the hotel on the same block.
There is no set timeline on when construction could start on the new project. The project will require rezoning the property from commercial to residential.
