The Washington Business Journal reported that a developer is considering building multifamily housing on a portion of the Hilton Mark Center complex site in Alexandria's West End.
"The demolition target is a five-story building, which includes hotel rooms and conference space, comprising part of the Hilton Alexandria Mark Center complex at 5000 Seminary Road. The building sits at the corner of Mark Center Drive and Mark Center Avenue, on the southern end of the Hiliton Mark Center site," according to WBJ.
In October 2021, City Council considered a request to divide the Hilton property into two parcels — one for the hotel and another for future redevelopment that currently has the conference center. The approved changes would also allow more height and density on the second (new) parcel, since the first already includes Alexandria's tallest building, the Hilton tower.
Development of the new parcel could be quite some time away, but other development in the area is coming.
The Blake, a new apartment complex on the northwest corner of Beauregard Street and Seminary Road, recently started leasing its studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom apartments.
In addition, several homes along Fairbanks Road just northeast of the intersection of Beauregard Street and Seminary Road are boarded up and awaiting demolition to make way for the Upland Park Townhome community.
