Another major rainstorm has sent residents scrambling for wet vacs and appointments with flood remediation companies.
Saturday night, the National Weather Service reported that more than four inches of rain fell in about two hours.
Here's what to do if your basement flooded or you had a sewage backup:
- Document the issue. While your mind might be on cleanup, stop and take at least a few photos and videos of the water, where it came in from and other information for your insurance company.
- Remove water as quickly as possible with buckets, a wet vac and any other means possible.
- Get on the waiting list for a flood remediation company immediately — many clean-up companies are operating on a first-come, first-served basis right now. (One person on social media said that Maryland-based companies seem less overwhelmed right now and may be able to respond faster.)
- Call your insurance company immediately.
- Report your issue to Alex311 so that city officials know where the issues are. "Understanding the extent of the impact helps us direct resources," Mayor Justin Wilson wrote.'
