A project on King Street near the Metro station could see five townhomes renovated and added onto, transforming the space into 52 condo units. The project goes before the Board of Architectural Review in early October.
The project is on the south side of King Street, between the Lorian Hotel & Spa and the Hampton Inn. The addresses are 1604 through 1614 King St. Five of the townhomes were built in 1913; a sixth (pictured at the right above) was built much later but burned down and is structurally unsound, according to the development applicant, Dechantal Associates.
"The proposed development is designed to provide for residential development of the site that meets the site conditions, planning and zoning requirements, especially parking, the flood plain development requirements, and, to the extent possible, meet the Secretary of the Interior’s criterion for restoration of the 'Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties' providing for the restoration suitable for residential use of the five original townhouses on the site," Dechantal Associates notes in their application.
