Alexandria's new Police Chief Terrick McGuire is hitting the ground running after his swearing-in ceremony earlier this month.
McGuire hails from Arlinton, Texas, where he was most recently assistant chief. He has more than two decades of experience in police work, and "McGuire is nationally recognized for his commitment to enhancing community relations and meaningful engagement as a cornerstone of crime reduction," according to a statement from city officials.
One of the things he accomplished in Arlington was to create a prorgram called Mentoring Arlington Youth, which reduced crime rates and received national recognition from the Department of Justice's COPS Office as a model for 21st Century Policing.
The chief's plans for the first 100 days include focusing on "relationships, review, respond and report" with plans in each topic area. The plans include evaluating programs and services currently in place and assigning key leadership roles.
McGuire's swearing in ceremony was Dec. 10.
“I am honored and grateful to accept the position of Police Chief of the Alexandria Police Department,” McGuire said. “I believe in a community-oriented approach to policing, building public trust through transparency, and emphasizing communication and collaboration. I look forward to working alongside our dedicated officers, community leaders, and residents to create a safer Alexandria for everyone. I am excited to begin this journey together.”
