Fairfax County has launched a new online tool to help residents report commercial vehicle parking violations.
"For years, my office has heard from the community about the growing number of commercial trucks parked along Richmond Highway and throughout the County. These vehicles not only create safety hazards but also disrupt our neighborhoods, block businesses and limit walkability," said Mount Vernon District Supervisor Dan Storck.
Storck's team, along with Department of Information Technology (DIT) and Fairfax County Police Department (FCPD), created an this easy-to-use reporting tool. The tool asks for a specific location and photos of the violation (if it's possible for a resident to take the photo safely).
The new complaint tool is available here.
A commercial vehicle parked in violation of county laws must meet ONE of the following requirements for a valid complaint:
1. Is the vehicle "obstructing traffic," meaning, parked in a travel lane?
2. Is it in a signed "no parking" area?
3. Is a commercial truck parked in a residentially zoned area?
4. Is the vehicle parked "long-term," meaning 15 days or longer from when the police first 'tag' the vehicle?
5. Is the vehicle part of a "fleet," meaning, two or more vehicles of the same company parked on a public road?
6. Is the vehicle parked closer than 10 ft. from a driveway, closer than 20 ft. from an intersection or closer than 30 ft. from a stop sign?
