Fairfax County officials are considering putting Huntington Road on a "road diet" between Richmond Highway and Telegraph Road to make space for protected bike lanes and a center turn lane.
Residents are invited to weigh in on the proposal through Oct. 25.
The proposal includes:
- Repurposing two of the four lanes of vehicle traffic between Richmond Highway and Telegraph Road with buffered bike lanes
- Adding a center turn lane between Farrington Avenue and Hunting Creek Road
The road diet, if it happens, would be meant to make walking along Huntington Avenue and bicycling safer. The configuration currently, with four wide lanes of traffic, encourages speeding and cut-through traffic, according to planners.
