Alexandria City Hall
City Hall, City of Alexandria, Virginia
Want to help redesign Alexandria's Market Square? Thursday evening, Oct. 10, city officials will be hosting the first of several virtual meetings to get public input on the space outside City Hall.
Market Square has been the center of civic activity since Alexandria was founded in 1749. The current Market Square Plaza (and the garage underneath) are in need of structural repairs, opening an opportunity to re-evaluate its form. City Hall itself is in need of significant repairs to systems.
International design firm LEO A DALY will be leading the design process for a renovation of Alexandria's historic City Hall and Market Square, along with local firms Rust Orling Architecture and LandDesign.
Design is anticipated to continue through early 2026, with construction taking place between 2026 and 2028.
“This is an exciting first step in a long-awaited process,” said City Manager James Parajon. “City Hall and Market Square should reflect this great city, our history, and the commitment to equitable services that our community expects. We look forward to reimagining how to ensure 301 King Street is a source of pride for our employees and residents.”
