A decorated porch in Alexandria
Tiny pink or white flowers have bloomed on cherry trees all over the DMV and not just around the National Mall Tidal Basin — but also along many streets in Alexandria. Shops, restaurants and homes have decorated with the iconic pink blossoms. Even part of the D.C. National Cherry Blossom Festival has made its way across the Potomac river right here in Alexandria.
Two Alexandria restaurants are participating in the festival as part of the Cherry Picks program. Dozens of DMV restaurants are showcasing their skills through cherry blossom inspired drinks and food. Rockland’s Barbecue (25 S. Quaker Ln.) is currently offering a Bourbon Cherry Sour and South Block (106 N. Lee St. and 3051 Mount Vernon Ave.) has whipped up a bright pink Spring Bowl featuring strawberries, blackberries, pitaya and honey. A full map of participating restaurants is available on the National Cherry Blossom Festival website.
A number of Alexandria houses have decorated as part of the Petal Porches program presented by Amazon which invites DMV residents to “unleash their creativity and celebrate their springtime spirit by decorating their home.” Find participating houses near you using the map on the National Cherry Blossom festival website here.
