The Campagna Center recently celebrated 80 years of service and leadership at its Lighting the Way: 80th Anniversary Gala, held at the historic River Farm estate in Alexandria. With sweeping views of the Potomac River, more than 240 guests gathered May 9 to honor the organization’s enduring legacy and transformative impact on children and families in the community.
The evening featured a cocktail hour, catered dinner, live music, spirited live auction, silent auction, and heartfelt remarks from Stephanie Wiggins, chair of Campagna’s Board of Directors, and Dr. Tammy L. Mann, who concluded her 13-year tenure as President and CEO. The event raised over $250,000 in donations and pledges—an incredible show of support for the organization and its work.
Founded in 1945, Campagna Center has long served as a cornerstone for Alexandria’s youth and families, providing early childhood education, after-school enrichment, and college and career preparation. In the past year alone, the nonprofit supported 2,493 individuals, most from households earning 100–200% of the federal poverty level.
The evening, brought together by a dedicated Gala Committee, had several highlights. Dr. Mann paid tribute to Elizabeth Anne Campagna, whose foundational leadership since the 1960s helped shape the organization’s vision, and the energetic live auction let successful bidders walk away with luxury dining and sporting experiences—all in support of a great cause.
As Campagna Center looks ahead to the future, proceeds from the gala will directly fund year-round educational and support programs that benefit more than 2,000 Alexandria residents annually.
