Residents who use Wythe Street as a cut-through from the Braddock Metro Station east toward Old Town North are encountering ‘road closed’ signs.
The road closure will last several months and is part of the new Braddock West development.
Specifically, this winter, engineers are running sewer lines through the site prior to further construction. It was these sewer lines, concerns about storm water runoff and a lawsuit that delayed the project’s approval in 2021. The plans now include green infrastructure, permeable pavement and other mitigating measures.
The 10 homes in the immediate neighborhood are boarded up and will be demolished to make way for a 180-unit multi-family residential building with retail along the lower floor. It will include 14 affordable units.
Wythe Street between North Fayett and North Payne streets will remain closed until early 2023 for sewer construction.
