FIFA has announced that Alexandria has been selected as an official Team Base Camp destination for FIFA Club World Cup 2025™, hosting Al Ain FC, one of the world’s top clubs from the United Arab Emirates. The team will stay in and train in Alexandria, just minutes from the nation’s capital, throughout the group stage of the competition.
This opportunity places Alexandria on the international sports stage, positioning it as a welcoming and strategically located destination for sporting events, including one of the most watched soccer tournaments in the world.
The inaugural FIFA Club World Cup™ brings together 32 of the world’s top clubs in the United States this summer, including two matches for Al Ain FC at Audi Field in Washington, D.C. Alexandria’s practice facilities, range of accommodations, close proximity to D.C. and Washington region airports makes Alexandria the ideal “home away from home.”
“Alexandria is proud to be a part of this global tournament and to host Al Ain FC in our community,” said Mayor Alyia Gaskins. “This opportunity reflects the strength of our city as a great place to live, work, visit and play.”
Located on the Potomac River within eyesight of Washington, D.C, Alexandria welcomes soccer fans from around the world to stay in and explore the city during this summer’s FIFA Club World Cup. Matches at D.C.’s Audi Field are scheduled for June 18, 22 and 26, 2025. Visitors can skip the traffic and take the City Cruises Water Taxi from Old Town Alexandria to Navy Yard, steps from Audi Field. Or, connect to D.C. via Metro, Uber/Lyft, bikeshare and more.
Named a top destination by Travel + Leisure and Condé Nast Traveler in 2024, Alexandria is a walkable, welcoming getaway nationally recognized for its rich history and beautifully preserved architecture—a perfect backdrop for hundreds of independent restaurants and boutiques, a vibrant arts and culture scene and intimate historic sites.
“We are honored to welcome Al Ain FC to Alexandria as their practice homebase for the FIFA Club World Cup 2025,” said Todd O’Leary, president and CEO of Visit Alexandria. “Alexandria’s historic setting, along with our incredible shopping and dining experiences, exceptional hospitality, and proximity to Audi Field make us a desirable home base for FIFA visitors.”
