The Alexandria Police Department has released its 2025 Annual Report, showcasing a year of dedicated service, meaningful community partnerships and progress in enhancing public safety throughout Alexandria.
The report highlights the work of the department's sworn officers and professional staff, who serve the community every day through emergency response, criminal investigations, youth engagement, crime prevention, traffic safety, special events and countless interactions that often happen outside the public eye.
Among the year's highlights, Alexandria experienced a nearly 30% reduction in crime, while the department continued to strengthen relationships with residents, businesses, schools, and community organizations.
The report includes:
- A nearly 30% reduction in crime citywide
- Alexandria's recognition as a Top 15 National Night Out city, reflecting strong community participation
- Community programs and partnerships that supported neighborhood safety and quality of life
- The work of specialized units serving residents across the city every day
"This report reflects the commitment of the men and women of the Alexandria Police Department and the community we are privileged to serve," said Chief Tarrick McGuire. "Every accomplishment represents the dedication of our officers and professional staff, as well as the partnerships we've built with residents, businesses, schools, faith leaders, and community organizations. Public safety is strongest when we work together, and this report reflects what we can accomplish as one community."
The 2025 Annual Report offers a comprehensive look at the department's work throughout the year and the many ways APD employees serve Alexandria beyond responding to calls for service.
Some of the highlights include:
- Overall Crime Down 29.53%
Alexandria experienced a nearly 30% reduction in overall crime, with violent crime down 26.8% and property crime down 29.76%.
- Public Safety Through Data-Informed Policing
APD strengthened its use of crime analysis, calls for service, and community input to better anticipate needs, allocate resources, and proactively address emerging issues.
- Keeping Alexandria Safe Every Day
Officers responded to 67,274 calls for service, made 4,204 criminal arrests, investigated 1,412 cases and conducted 11,467 traffic stops.
- Building Stronger Community Partnerships
APD continued expanding relationships with residents, businesses, schools, faith organizations, and nonprofit partners, reinforcing the belief that public safety is a shared responsibility.
- National Recognition for Community Engagement
Alexandria was recognized as a Top 15 National Night Out community among cities with populations between 100,000 and 300,000 after increasing neighborhood participation by 44% and hosting 52 community celebrations.
- Transparent Communication
The Office of Strategic Communications continued keeping the community informed through proactive media engagement, social media, video production, press conferences, and digital communications. The department website received more than 161,000 visits.
- Serving Beyond Emergency Response
APD safely managed approximately 80 special events throughout the year while also supporting regional operations, major public gatherings, and high-profile security events.
- Investing in the Next Generation
Through youth mentoring, Police Youth Camp, the Alexandria Initiative on Mentoring (AIM), school partnerships, and community outreach, APD continued building positive relationships with Alexandria's youth.
- Supporting and Developing Employees
The department invested in recruitment, hiring, leadership development, skills-based training, officer wellness, and creating opportunities that support a resilient workforce.
- Responding When the Community Needed Us Most
During the winter snowstorm, officers maintained around-the-clock operations, assisted stranded motorists, checked vulnerable businesses, responded to weather-related emergencies, and ensured continued access to essential services.
