UPDATE: Gretchen Bulova, who heads up the Office of Historic Alexandria, is the Democratic nominee for Virginia's 11th House of Delegates district. She won a firehouse primary Tuesday, taking 47.73% of the vote or 567 votes. She ran against So Lim, Vanessa Cardenas, Douglas M. Shuster and Denver Supinger.
The special election to fill the seat of David Bulova is Jan. 13. Gretchen Bulova will face Republican Adam Wise on the ballot.

Alexandria's director of the Office of Historic Alexandria, Gretchen Bulova, has thrown her hat in the ring for the 11th House of Delegates District firehouse primary. The 11th District includes parts of Fairfax County and the City of Fairfax.
Bulova was prompted to run after her husband, Del. David Bulova, who currently holds the seat, was appointed by Gov.-elect Abigail Spanberger, to serve as Virginia's next Secretary of Natural and Historic Resources.
House of Delegates members meet in 30-day sessions in odd-numbered years and 60-day sessions in even-numbered years at the statehouse in Richmond.
Gretchen Bulova has been endorsed by Congressman James Walkinshaw, Fairfax City Mayor Catherine Read and Fairfax County Board of Supervisors Chair Jeffrey McKay in the race.
In her job as director of the Office of Historic Alexandria, Bulova oversees eight museums and the City’s archaeology and archives programs. Under her leadership, her department has received numerous recognitions including the Virginia Museum Innovation Award and Alexandria NAACP Community Service Award for outstanding social justice work. Bulova has noted she is proud to have served on the board and as the president of the Virginia Association of Museums.
Bulova received her BA from the College of William and Mary and holds a Masters from The George Washington University. She is also a graduate of the Sorensen Institute of Political Leadership at the University of Virginia.
Candidate filing in the 11th House of Delegates District firehouse primary has closed, and five candidates have submitted the required materials to qualify for the ballot. Their names will appear on the ballot in the following order:

- Gretchen M. Bulova
- Douglas M. Shuster
- Denver Supinger
Voting in the Democratic firehouse primary for the 11th House of Delegates District will be held on Tuesday, Dec. 16.
