Alexandria has been among the top 5 Best Small Cities in the U.S. for seven consecutive years, since the category was created in 2018. This is the fourth time Alexandria was ranked #3 (the other times were 2023, 2021 and 2019).

Condé Nast highlighted Old Town's architectural charm and boutique shopping. "Most folks start to imagine moving there immediately after setting foot in Old Town, once they’ve strolled the red-brick sidewalks, clocking street after street of perfectly preserved rowhouses from the 18th and 19th centuries," the list editors wrote.
