Alexandria Presbyterian Church has unveiled renderings and plans for its new permanent home, — a $10.5 million church at 1300 W. Braddock Road, at the corner of W. Braddock Road and Scroggins Road, in paperwork filed with the City:
The nearly 41,000 square foot building will include a basement, two floors and an attic. The current church on the property was built in 1974 and sits on a 14,000 square-foot lot. Alexandria Bible Church sold the building for $750,000 in 2015 to Alexandria Presbyterian Church. The total building and land were most recently valued at just over $1 million, according to City property records.
Alexandria Presbyterian Church has been seeking to create a permanent home for the past few years and its congregation has worshiped at the current West Braddock church (which seats less than 200) and at Del Ray Baptist, where its lease expires in 2022, as well as at the Campagna Center.
The church launched a capital campaign in the spring that is underway.
The new church is expected to seat up to 500 and will also include space for a nursery, Sunday school, teens ministry, an office, fellowship space and parking. Entrances will be located on W. Braddock Road and Scroggins Road. Organizers have met with neighborhood groups about any potential traffic issues and plan to continue to do so.
The church building was designed by Reston architecture firm LeMay Erickson Willcox Architects, which specializes in religious buildings and has worked on more than 150 such projects in the past 30 years.
Alexandria Presbyterian Church is led by Senior Pastor Tom Holliday, a Pittsburgh native who has led the church since 1990. He and his wife Sharon are the parents of three children.
