This is part of a series of stories updating the status of various development projects in and around Alexandria.
Construction has started on a 2.8-acre site just east of Fire Station 206 on Seminary Road.
Construction crews are working on land where a few single-family homes stood across from the intersection of Seminary Road and North Pickett Street. In their place, Housing Alexandria is coordinating the development of 36 homeownership units (31 townhomes, and 5 condominium flats which will be single story and elevator accessible). There will be two garage spaces per townhome plus neighborhood parking.
Housing Alexandria explains that the organization "will use a shared equity homeownership model to ensure that these homes remain affordable in perpetuity. Homes will be priced for households making up to 80% of the Area Median Income."
A few condo flats will be owned by Sheltered Homes of Alexandria to allow them to continue to serve up to 12 residents. SHA provides housing and services for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
To be a part of the homebuyer program, residents must meet these requirements from Housing Alexandria:
- Be a first-time homebuyer who has lived or worked in the City of Alexandria for at least six months
- Make up to mathematically 80% of the Area Median Income
- Take Housing Alexandria’s introductory course (dates to be announced), Virginia Housing’s Homebuyer program, and meet with homeownership counselors
