In the lead up to Election Day on Nov. 4, Congresswoman Abigail Spanberger will be embarking on another bus tour across the Commonwealth — the 11-day, 40-plus-stop “Virginia Votes Bus Tour,” which will kick off this weekend.
Spanberger, the Democratic candidate for Virginia governor, stops in Alexandria Thursday, Oct. 30, according to the schedule posted on her website. No word yet on the location of the stop in Alexandria or the timeframe.
From Oct. 25 until Election Day on Nov. 4, Spanberger will travel across the Commonwealth to lay out the stakes in this year’s elections and encourage Virginians to cast their ballots.
Spanberger faces Lt. Gov. Winsome Earle-Sears, the Republican candidate, on the ballot. Earle-Sears' campaign website on Monday does not upcoming mention campaign stops.
In a co/efficient poll released Friday, Earle-Sears is down 5 points, with 44 percent of the vote compared to Spanberger's 49 percent. Six percent remain undecided, the poll shows.
Winsome Earle-Sears, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, immigrated to the United States at the age of six. She is proud to have served in the United States Marine Corps. In addition to her various appointments, she has served as the Vice President of the Virginia State Board of Education; and as a presidential appointee to the US Census Bureau, as co-chair of the African American Committee; and the Advisory Committee on Women Veterans to the Secretary of Veterans Affairs.
Winsome was first elected in 2002 to a majority Black House of Delegates district, a first for a Republican in Virginia since 1865. She is the first female Lieutenant Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia, and the first Black female elected to statewide office. As Lieutenant Governor, Winsome Earle-Sears presides over the Senate when they are in session.
In a press release about her upcoming bus tour, Spanberger noted that if elected, she will focus on the economy and education.
“Since I launched my campaign to serve Virginians as their next Governor, I have been traveling across the Commonwealth and listening to Virginians share the challenges facing their families — from high costs to job losses and threats to their businesses. I’ve spoken with Virginians about their concerns — about the success of their children’s schools, our Commonwealth’s economic future, and the security of our fundamental rights,” said Spanberger. “Now — as we approach Election Day and hundreds of thousands of Virginians are casting their ballots, I’m making clear to Virginians that on day one, I will get to work to make their visions a reality. As Virginia’s next Governor, I will be focused on making Virginia more affordable, protecting our economy from threats out of Washington, and making sure our schools are the best in the country — and I will never be afraid to stand up for Virginia.”
The “Virginia Votes Bus Tour” is Spanberger’s second statewide bus tour of her campaign. Earlier this year, Spanberger completed her eight-day, 49-stop “Span Virginia Bus Tour,” which energized voters across the Commonwealth.
