The City of Alexandria and ACT for Alexandria (ACT) are partnering with 18 local organizations to distribute $1.9 million of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funding.
The funding will support the continuation of COVID-19 recovery in Alexandria.
"The Alexandria Community Access and Emergency Support (CAES) grant program was created to ensure that individuals and families are receiving the support they need as the impact of the pandemic continues to affect many Alexandrians," ACT for Alexandria explained.
The grant program is designed to link families to benefits and programs that they are eligible for and to ensure that needs continue to be funded. Partner organizations include African Communities Together, AHC Inc., The Child and Family Network Centers, Christ Church, Edu-Futuro, EnDependence Center of NorthernVirginia, Friends of Guest House, Grace Episcopal Church, Inova Health Care Services, Legal Aid Justice Center of NorthernVirginia, Nueva Vida, Inc., Offender Aid and Restoration, Old Presbyterian Meeting House, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St.Mary Conference, St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Tenants and Workers United, The Salvation Army National Capital Area Command and Wesley Housing.
"Our goal in using federal ARPA funding was to leverage public-private initiatives to improve the resiliency of vulnerable Alexandrians. Our city is fortunate to have so many strong community-based organizations. This innovative initiative will help many Alexandrians in a meaningful way," said Mayor Justin Wilson. “City Council and leaders in City government understand that Alexandria's nonprofits have a unique relationship with community members. This incredible group of grantees is able to engage and support residents in unique ways, making sure that Alexandrians who continue to suffer negative impacts from COVID-19 have what they need to recover from the pandemic."
