Have you ever heard a newlywed couple say:
“I wish we spent more time taking photos at our wedding and less time with our guests.”
OR
“I loved going into major debt to pay for a big wedding.”
Probably not. The past 50+ years have focused on big weddings with a lot of expenses as a revolt to the penny pinching years of the 1930’s and 40’s - including lavish food, flowers, and guest lists so large that they need a ranking system.
However, the recent pandemic ceremonies and receptions have shown engaged couples that they can consider a more budget-friendly and intimate wedding day, which means micro-weddings throughout Alexandria and beyond are here to stay.
Four Main Benefits of Micro-weddings

1. Couples value time with their families and friends
Micro-weddings allow couples to spend more time with their guests. As a wedding photographer, I know that this day is about the couple and the people there to support them. A micro-wedding allows for shorter family photo and portrait times, and I make it a priority to take the best quality photos while giving the couple valuable time back.
2. Letting go of wedding traditions allows for a personal experience
Want to use your grandma’s china at a backyard party full of twinkle lights and fairy gardens? Prefer a pop-up wedding at a tiny park where you had your first kiss? Do you dream of a wedding day dinner of champagne, donuts and curly fries? Microweddings make these traditions practical and allows couples to focus on what matters most to them. Less wedding day stress = happy couples (making for the best photos!)

3. The year 2020 taught us the importance of quality over quantity
2020 has made many people crave comfort, connection, and the chance to be present with others. Couples can splurge on the things that matter most, allowing the important things to shine through. This can mean photographing the important moments of the day and minimizing the time to capture standard family and couple portraits because while those are important - more time doesn’t make them better!
4. Less fussing and more celebrating
With many things to celebrate, couples want their wedding to carry on this celebratory feeling and let go of fussing or stressing on things that aren’t important to them. They do this by choosing wedding professionals that support this vision, such as selecting a photographer that allows the couple to enjoy their wedding day without constantly being directed or posed for “candid” shots.
While these micro weddings might have been born out of the pandemic, they are the green light couples needed for permission to make their weddings uniquely them.
