It's time to start thinking about summer camps!
Sure, it’s winter and it’s cold outside, but before you know it, your kids will be out of school and...believe it or not, it’s time to start thinking about summer camp registration.
Registration is opening this month for many summer camps in the Alexandria area; you can also pencil in visits to open houses coming up. Older kids at home may be interested in camp counselor-in-training opportunities too.
Here are a few area summer camps in and around the Alexandria area to explore:
Browne Summer Camp: Located at 5917 Telegraph Road, the Browne Summer Camp offers an exciting day camp program from June 17 to Aug. 9 for ages 3 to 13 on its 11-acre campus at Browne Academy.
Burgundy Farm Summer Camp: From June 16 to Aug. 8, Burgundy’s summer camp (accredited by the American Camp Association), offers outdoor enrichment day camps on its 26-acre campus for children ages 3-11, a Counselor in Training program for ages 12-15, and daily swim instruction.
Camp Winkler: Camp Winkler, located at 5400 Roanoake Ave., takes kids ages 5-12 on adventures by exploring the natural world, all within the 44.6 acres of Winkler Botanical Preserve. Camp Winkler offers a blend of traditional summer camp and nature-focused experiences, featuring activities like animal encounters, woodworking, skill-building, crafts, games, and themed nature hikes. Staff aim to foster creativity and curiosity, building on the success of the camp's inaugural season.
City of Alexandria Power-On Summer Camp Program: The City of Alexandria Department of Recreation, Parks & Cultural Activities will offer its Power-On Summer Camp Program for elementary-aged youth entering 1st–6th grade in Fall 2025. One location will serve Power-Up program participants entering 6th–9th grade in Fall 2025. Summer Camp will begin Monday, June 16 and end Friday, August 8.
Congressional Summer Camp: Day Camp is a traditional favorite with a variety of camp activities including nature, sports, arts, horseback riding, archery, swimming and many more fit into a weekly schedule. Campers are sure to come home every day tired, dirty and full of adventures to share. Ages are rising junior kindergartner through rising 9th grader. Camps scheduled from June 16 to Aug. 22.
The Summer Camp at Episcopal: The offerings here include art, sports, archery, swimming, outdoor education, music, games, drama and more for ages 6 to 14. Families can visit the camp’s website to fill out a form to find out about the offerings for this summer on the 130-acre campus. Some of the program amenities include an outdoor pool, a full-scale dining hall, 24/7 security staff and after-camp care and transportation. Offered from June 23 to Aug. 1.
Steve and Kate’s Camp: Held at the Alexandria Country Day School campus for ages 5 to 13, this program offers a smorgasbord of camp activities, from sewing to drama to coding and much more. Parents will love the flexibility of signing up for one day or the entire summer. Snacks and lunches from local favorite restaurants are included. Offered from June 16-Aug.22.
Summertimes: Located at the school campuses of St.Stephen’s & St. Agnes, Summertimes is offering some exciting new camps and classes this summer for ages 3 to 18. Families are encouraged to explore them all, including Oasis Day Camp, Fashion Design and Branding, Rockets and Space Science, Art Alchemy, and more.
