Oprah magazine has named Alexandria among the 19 Best Christmas Villages in the world.
Other cities on the list include Bad Ragaz, Switzerland; Franklin, Tennessee; Aarhus, Denmark; Colmar, France; and Williamsburg, Virginia.
Here's what Oprah magazine had to say about Alexandria:
"For a traditional American Christmas, head to Alexandria, Virginia, where the Old Town's streets and 18th-century row houses bustle with good cheer each December. Festive-seekers can find carolers, hand bell choirs, ample lights and decorations, while close by there's Mount Vernon, home to Aladdin, a Christmas camel, as well as a Colonial Christmas experience."
Alexandria does have a lot going on to bring on the holiday spirit in the next several weeks, including its own Alternative Black Friday, Small Business Saturday, Scottish Walk Weekend and City Tree Lighting.
Mount Vernon's Christmas celebration starts Nov. 29. Collingwood Lights is expected to open in the coming weeks, as well. (See the story of their rise to national fame last year here.)
