George Washington’s Mount Vernon Monday announced a new shuttle service from the King Street Metro station in Alexandria, offering a convenient and direct connection to the historic estate.
The new service begins Friday, May 8. The schedule is:
Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays with departures from King Street Metro at 10 a.m., 11 a.m. and noon. Returns from Mount Vernon are scheduled for 2 p.m., 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
This new transportation option expands access to one of the country’s most iconic historic sites, making it easier than ever for visitors to experience the life and legacy of George Washington and the founding of the United States.
The shuttle service launches as Mount Vernon plays a central role in the national commemoration of America’s 250th anniversary, serving as a place where visitors can experience the people, places, and decisions that shaped the nation.
“Mount Vernon is an essential destination, especially during this milestone moment in American history. We’re thrilled to make it even more convenient to visit the home of America’s first president,” said Julie Almacy, Vice President for Media and Communications at Mount Vernon. “By connecting George Washington’s Mount Vernon directly to public transit, we are expanding access to the history that defines our nation.”
The approximately 20-minute shuttle ride offers scenic views along the Potomac River and delivers guests directly to Mount Vernon’s 500-acre estate. The service operates Friday through Sunday with multiple daily departures from the King Street Metro station and coordinated return trips from Mount Vernon. The schedule allows visitors approximately 3.5 hours to explore the historic property.
Shuttle tickets are $10 per person (in addition to general admission to Mount Vernon) and can be purchased online when buying admission to Mount Vernon or separately for those who already have tickets. For more information or to purchase shuttle tickets, visit mountvernon.org/MVShuttle.
