The MICHELIN Guide has spent more than a century telling travelers where to eat. Now it’s telling them where to sleep, too.
Early this month, the guide announced its 2026 MICHELIN Keys, the hotel equivalent of its famous restaurant stars. Anonymous inspectors award one, two or three Keys to hotels offering what MICHELIN calls “a very special stay” (One Key), “an exceptional stay” (Two Keys) or “an extraordinary stay” (Three Keys). This year, 65 U.S. hotels earned new Keys or upgrades. Three of them are in Virginia.
They join two familiar names already on the list: The Inn at Little Washington (Two Keys) and Salamander Middleburg (One Key).

The Lodge at Primland, Auberge Collection — Two Keys
Meadows of Dan, about 4.5–5 hours from Alexandria
The biggest Virginia news of the year comes from the Blue Ridge Mountains, where Primland debuted with Two Keys. The wellness-focused estate (spans 12,000 acres) and offers a range of places to stay: rooms in the main lodge, chalet-style suites, cozy cottages and treehouses.
Days here are built around the outdoors: hiking, kayaking and outdoor yoga, balanced by Biologique Recherche spa treatments. The signature finale is stargazing in the property’s observatory, where the dark mountain skies put on a show that’s hard to find anywhere near the city.

The closest of the new honorees is also the newest. Hotel Burg (opened in 2025) in an 1885 estate on South King Street in historic Leesburg. It offers classic rooms, condos and multiple suites. The standout is the Rooftop Suite, with a private outdoor terrace and its own fireplace.
Surrounded by Loudoun County’s vineyards and horse farms, Hotel Burg is an easy weekend escape, close enough for a Friday-night getaway.

The Boulevard Inn — One Key
Richmond, about two hours from Alexandria
Proof that a Key hotel doesn’t have to be big: The Boulevard Inn has just five rooms. Set in a 1914 Colonial Revival townhouse in Richmond’s Fan District, the inn pairs high ceilings, exposed brick walls and antique touches with modern amenities.
Guests start the day with continental breakfast and wind down with wine-and-cheese happy hours in the common areas. The Fan’s tree-lined streets, restaurants and the museums along Richmond’s Boulevard are all within easy reach.
