A shout of appreciation also to the George Washington Birthday Parade's longstanding parade announcers, two community leaders who also have been honored as Alexandria Living Legends. After 32 years of service at Alexandria Recreational, Park, and Cultural Activities Department, Janet Barnett has served as executive director of Senior Services of Alexandria and remains deeply involved in community service activities. John Porter, a former educator and principal of then-TC Williams High School (now Alexandria City High School) was a founding leader of ACT for Alexandria.
