This rendering shows the first mural funded by residents and businesses through an Old Town Boutique District campaign.
A local artist is starting work on an interactive mural in Old Town on Tuesday.
The mural is the first of two planned for buildings in Old Town.
Artist Meg Biram will be painting for about a week on the south side of the ALX Community building at 106 N. Lee St., which houses ALX Community, South Block Juice Co., Compass real estate and Vikraya Lab yoga and pilates studio.
Biram is a lifelong artist who lives in DC and has done murals at The Coconut Club in Washington, DC and elsewhere.
The Old Town Boutique District launched a crowd funding campaign earlier this summer to commission murals that highlight the area's history and/or its prosperous future.
"Murals are such a great way to engage visitors and residents to celebrate the arts and add vitality. The design highlights the uniqueness of our Old Town community and our passion for inclusivity," said Megan Podolsky, President of the Old Town Boutique District.
According to the fundraising page, the purpose of the project is to "help our amazing city attract more visitors, further engage our community at large, and provide free art to beautify the city. These murals will be an interactive art exhibit for everyone to enjoy."
The Boutique District is continuing to raise money through Indiegogo to finish paying for this first mural and to fund more.
The first mural is going up over the next week thanks to donations from residents and generous business owners who donated through Indiegogo and directly.
