Alexandria has been named one of the South’s Best Cities 2020 by the readers of Southern Living magazine, along with Charleston, Savannah, Nashville, New Orleans, Austin, Asheville and others in the top 10.
In praising Alexandria on behalf of its readers, Southern Living noted: "Just a stone’s throw from our nation’s capital, Alexandria maintains its small-town historic charm, and in the hearts of our readers, this city has it all. Stroll down the walkable King Street Mile and you’ll see why—the buzzy, beautiful neighborhood features everything from centuries-old architecture to dozens of independently owned restaurants and boutiques."
In addition, Alexandria was the focus of a new Southern Living online feature story: Why Alexandria, Virginia Is The Ideal Weekend Getaway.
Southern Living also honored The Hour on its South’s Best Boutiques 2020 list. Southern Living stated "the best stores—and the ones we love most—are those that feel like they’re woven snugly into the fabric of their hometowns. These soulful shops reflect the unique personalities of locals and invite visitors to feel, for a moment at least, like they belong there, too."
The Hour, which opened in 2009 at 1015 King St. in Old Town, features a large curated collection of vintage barware and cocktail glassware.
"It’s always happy hour here! Owner Victoria Vergason keeps more than 10,000 vintage cocktail-related items in stock (think Art Deco glass ice buckets and Baccarat crystal coupe glasses), plus her own line of vintage-inspired barware and glassware, The Modern Home Bar," Southern Living reported.
