Alexandria was just given the honor of being listed at the top of Travel + Leisure’s “50 Best Places to Travel in 2023” list, as one of the best places to travel “For Cultural Riches” among international destinations such as Cairo and the Nile, Havana, the UK, Venice and more.
This honor comes on the heels of Alexandria’s recent achievement as one of Travel + Leisure's “Best Cities in the U.S.” for the first time ever in 2022 and reflects the momentum of Visit Alexandria’s years-long national media relations efforts that have resulted in breakthrough national accolades and coverage.
Out of all the destinations in the world, Associate Editor Liz Cantrell chose Alexandria as her top place to go in 2023, highlighting “how effectively the city is confronting its own history” and citing the recent reopening of Freedom House Museum, the upcoming launch of the southern route of the African American Heritage Trail and the offerings of Manumission Tour Company.
She also highlights Alexandria’s thriving hotel scene, including the new Hotel AKA Alexandria, opening in 2023, and Morrison House, which was recently voted one of Travel + Leisure’s “Best City Hotels in the Continental U.S.”
