In the heart of Old Town Alexandria, a 20-foot-wide historic row house presented both charm and challenge. The homeowners sought a design that honored the home's rich history while accommodating modern living.
A Bedroom Reimagined
The primary bedroom, constrained by three doorways, required a thoughtful approach to space and design. By incorporating masculine textiles in rich greens and browns, and adding a custom mirror to reflect the serene river views, the room transformed into a bright yet masculine retreat. Original wide pine floors and curated oil paintings enhanced the timeless ambiance.
Multi-Functional Family Room
The second-floor family room, just nine feet wide, needed to serve multiple purposes: a library, TV room, and guest space. A neutral queen sleeper sofa was carefully installed to provide comfort without overwhelming the space. An armchair, selected to suit the tall homeowner, offered a cozy spot by the fireplace. A historic city map, fitted wool broadloom carpet, and a cohesive palette of taupe, blue, and red tied the design together, ensuring both functionality and elegance.
