Discover the East Coast’s largest Mid-Century Modern home and garden tour on Saturday, May 2, 2026, from noon to 6 p.m. Alongside 2,000 mid-century modern enthusiasts and fellow design lovers, explore 11 remarkable Hollin Hills homes and one standout garden, each showcasing timeless style, award-winning architecture, and thoughtful landscaping.
Hollin Hills is a neighborhood just south of Old Town, Alexandria.
It was built from the late 1940s to the early 1970s by developer Robert Davenport and renowned architect Charles Goodman, and was the first community in the Washington, DC Metro area to be made up entirely of contemporary homes.
Recognized for its architectural and design vision, Hollin Hills was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2013, and is a Virginia Landmark Historic District.
The neighborhood includes over 450 homes and multiple parks, covering a total of 326 acres
Ask Hollin Hillers why they live here, and you’ll often hear something like: “We came for the architecture — and stayed for the people.”
The 2026 Hollin Hills House + Garden Tour will be the 16th tour in which homeowners open their homes to the public. The first tour was held in 1953. Since 2006, the tour has been held once every two years; typically in the spring, but the 2020 tour was postponed to September 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
The 2024 tour was held in conjunction with the 75th anniversary of Hollin Hills. Tickets to the 2024 Tour sold out in 10 days!
Visitors will follow a self-guided walking tour showcasing thirteen spectacular mid-century modern homes and gardens.
More than 1,600 people attended in 2024.
The tour aims to highlight the four pillars that define the midcentury aesthetic of Hollin Hills:
- architecture
- interior design
- art and sculpture
- landscaping, gardens and parks
Old Town Trolley rides will make navigating the neighborhood effortless, and this year’s tour debuts a special in-home spotlight on Hollin Hills history.
