Old Town Alexandria's reportedly largest and most expensive home on the market, at 510 Wolfe St., is under contract, according to its listing.
Babs Beckwith with Corcoran McEnearney and co-listing agent Lauren Bishop, are listed as the agents on the property. The property was on the market for about six months and was originally listed for $10.8 million; its latest asking price was $8.5 million.
The Washington Business Journal reported that the sale "could potentially end two court cases involving real estate investor and developer [homeowner] Peter Labovitz." (Read more of the story here.)
The historic home once served as a Union hospital during the Civil War. The Wolfe Street General Hospital occupied the large private residence of Francis L. Smith. Smith is known for acting as Robert E. Lee’s attorney in 1870, in his unsuccessful attempt to regain possession of Arlington House.
Smith’s house was first used as a residence or office by Gen. John Slough, Alexandria’s military governor, and then as a hospital with 100 beds. Read more about the history of the home here.
The home sits about five blocks from the Potomac River waterfront and is within walking distance of restaurants and shopping.
