Local home goods consignment and resale store Evolution Home will be moving from its current location in Belle Haven to Alexandria's West End.
The move will happen sometime in April, according to Evolution Home owner Susan Driscoll.
Evolution Home started in Del Ray in 1999 (then known as Potomac West Interiors and Antique Gallery), and later moved to a former bowling alley at 6239 Shields Ave. in the Belle Haven area.
Now, the business will move to a larger space at 861 S. Pickett St. in Alexandria, between Aslin Beer Co. and the Habitat for Humanity ReStore.
The move is because Lennar Corp. is planning to build hundreds of residential units on the 7.6 acres between Shields Avenue and Quander Road. The project is titled Alexandria Crossing.
However, the business is also outgrowing its current space and is happy to move to a larger building. Evolution Home is offering an increasing selection of antique and vintage furniture and home accessories, as well as consignment.
Driscoll attributes Evolution Home’s success to “the enormous variety of high-quality vintage and antique items we offer through our 25 dealers and consignments.” Several of the same dealers have remained with her shop since the very beginning.
