Residents at DelRay Tower Apartments are enjoying the building's newly renovated skyline lounge.
Tasked with renovating an existing pool into a luxury lounge, D.C.-based interior design firm, Linowes Design Associates brought in a variety of lounge seating, a bar and additional gathering tables situated by floor-to-ceiling windows that offer sweeping views.
The design firm incorporated bold floor tiles, vibrant furniture and décor and statement lighting fixtures to create the new look.
Elyse Linowes, Principal of Linowes Design Associates, answered a few questions about the project:
There used to be a pool in that spot. Was it difficult creating a new look for the space?
The pool occupied prime amenity space with incredible rooftop views that the tenants were not using on a regular basis. The developers engaged us to introduce a unique amenity that would have broader appeal and function, thus engaging the majority of residents.
The whole pool had to be removed, including the surrounding concrete and plumbing. The entire space was gutted prior to beginning our work on the lounge.
How long did the renovation take?
The renovation took eight months to complete.
Is the primary use for everyday or can residents reserve it for private use?
The skyline lounge is available to all residents for everyday use. Tenants do have the option to rent out the space for private parties; there is a fee to reserve the entire space for private use.
Were the fixtures and furnishings custom made?
All fixtures and furnishings were custom designed and fabricated. We wanted to incorporate pieces that were entirely unique to the space in order to create not only an exciting new design, but an experience for tenants to fully enjoy.
What is the color palate of the skyline lounge?
We wanted the space to have a primarily neutral color scheme. Shades of blue, white and black are prominent throughout the lounge, with accents of gold, gray and plum. With brighter, more vibrant colors becoming more popular in design, we like to think of bold hues as the new neutral.
What inspired the design?
In approaching this design, we were inspired by a New York City lounge that is sophisticated and inviting. We wanted tenants to enjoy the space both during the day and especially at night, with the ambient lighting and the incredible views from the floor to ceiling windows and doors.
