Graders, diggers and backhoes have torn up the parking lot east of the Victory Center on Eisenhower Avenue, starting construction on a new townhome community there.
A Stonebridge affiliate bought the entire property just before the pandemic hit, and later sold the eastern portion. Winchester Homes is developing about 130 townhomes. Stonebridge owns the remainder of the property, including the still-vacant Victory Center office building and the parking lots to the west of the building.
The Washington Business Journal reported in the spring that Stonebridge has a "plan B" for Victory Center office building, should it remain empty. The office building was mostly designed with a federal client in mind, but it has remained mostly-vacant since it was built. If it remains empty too much longer — a timeline TBD — Stonebridge could demolish the building and build a 400-unit multifamily building above a parking garage.
For now, though, the office building and its west parking lot remain as Winchester Homes starts preparing the land for townhomes. A timeline for completion of the townhomes is not yet available.
