The Riviera Alexandria, a brand new sophisticated urban retirement community, is holding its grand opening today, Monday, March 2 in Alexandria.
Designed for older adults seeking a vibrant, maintenance-free lifestyle, The Riviera will offer an elevated retirement. Located between Crystal City and Old Town Alexandria, The Riviera offers beautiful views. This new Independent Living community was developed by Silverstone Senior Living and is managed by Greystone Communities, who has been providing senior living services since 1982.

The Riviera is situated just steps away from its affiliate community, The Landing, which offers luxury assisted living and memory care rental retirement options. As a sister property to The Landing, the members of The Riviera benefit from additional support options in assisted living or memory care should needs ever change. This integrated campus approach ensures that members and their loved ones can remain connected to trusted care and support throughout the aging journey.

The Riviera delivers an upscale independent living lifestyle akin to luxury condominium living but tailored specifically for adults age 62 and better in a country club atmosphere. Featuring thoughtfully designed residences, bright living spaces, and modern finishes, the community offers members both comfort and style in a dynamic urban environment. Like The Landing, this property will operate on a rental model, allowing members the flexibility to stay as long as they wish.
The Riviera is a transformative addition to historic Alexandria, with 129 spacious apartment homes designed for comfort, the community offers a range of living options. Members can choose from 1- and 2-bedroom plus den floor plans, with floor plans extending up to 1430 square feet, giving members the opportunity to make the space truly their own. The Landing currently serves 152 residents across Memory Care and Assisted Living.
Upon opening, The Riviera has 30 full-time employees, marking a notable investment in the local workforce. At its full operating capacity, the property will add an additional fifty-six jobs.
The new community development comes amid growing demand, and limited inventory, for senior living options across the DMV, as the number of senior renters has increased by 38.8% since 2015, underscoring the need for additional housing solutions that support independence and long-term planning. The property will be located north of Old Town Alexandria, south of Crystal City, and within the Richmond Highway Corridor along U.S. Route 1.
The Riviera joins Greystone Communities’ impressive portfolio of communities located throughout the DMV region, including The Trillium in Tysons, Virginia, The Providence in Fairfax, Virginia, and The Landing in Alexandria, Virginia. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held in early April.
