Each year, more people die of lung cancer than from colon, breast and prostate cancers combined. Early detection through screening saves lives by increasing survival rates and enabling less invasive treatment options.
Inova is stepping up efforts to promote early detection and prevention of lung cancer with a series of one-day Lung Cancer Awareness Events at its four Inova Schar Cancer hospital locations: Fairfax, Fair Oaks, Loudoun and Alexandria.
These free community events are part of Inova’s ongoing commitment to improving lung health and saving lives through early screening and education.
Attendees will have the opportunity to learn more about their lung health, speak directly with Inova specialists, and find out if they may qualify for a low-dose CT screening. Each event will feature:
- Inova Saville Cancer Screening Bus offering on-site health assessments
- Educational materials about the importance of lung cancer screening and prevention
- Spirometry testing – a simple, non-invasive breathing test that measures how well your lungs are functioning, conducted by Inova Medical Assistants
- Interstitial Pulmonology physicians on site to answer questions and discuss screening options
