Alexandria Restaurant Partner's latest restaurants in the works for Alexandria's waterfront, set to open in summer 2020, are being designed by HapstakDemetriou. The firm is the star designer of some of the DC metro area's top eateries including Rose's Luxury and Fiola Mare.
In March, the Alexandria City Council authorized Special Use Permits for Robinson Landing dining concepts proposed by Alexandria Restaurant Partners. Plans call for a fine dining restaurant and café both overlooking the water with an open air-seating concept that will activate the Robinson Landing Pier.
The unique design of the two restaurants, which are part of the Robinson Landing development, goes before the City of Alexandria's Board of Architectural Review on Oct. 16. (See additional renderings below.)
The proposed design includes two 30-foot shipping containers — one turned into a small kitchen and the other into a bar, each with a retractable canopy.
In its submission of materials to the board, the owners added photos that inspired the design including crates on a ship and other shoreside eateries.
Design materials include "fish scale" tile, shipping containers painted in Pantone 2392C (a blue/green) and ipe (pronounced ee-pay) wood (also called Brazilian walnut) cladding. Proposed furniture includes fire tables in the lounge areas.
