Taco Bamba opened its doors Wednesday.
The restaurant, at 6259 Little River Turnpike just west of the I-395 and Duke Street interchange, is Taco Bamba’s 10th location. (Other locations include Arlington, Falls Church, Tysons, Reston and Springfield, as well as a few spots in Maryland.)
Chef Victor Albisu reportedly worked in his mother’s Latin market in the Landmark neighborhood when he was growing up, so this opening is a homecoming of sorts for him. Taco Bamba is designed to reflect Albisu’s own Cuban and Peruvian roots with a unique take on Mexican food.
Albisu has won multiple awards, including Chef of the Year (2015) by the Restaurant Association of Metropolitan Washington (RAMW), the same year he defeated Chef Bobby Flay in a competition on the Food Network.
Albisu was also a semifinalist for the James Beard Foundation’s Best Chef: Mid-Atlantic award (2016). Taco Bamba won “Favorite Fast Bites” in the region by RAMW, and the organization named Albisu’s Mexican restaurant Poca Madre the “Upscale Casual Restaurant of the Year.”
The Landmark restaurant’s menu includes a wide variety of breakfast options, tacos, tortas, bowls, quesadillas, “crunchy things,” drinks and desserts.
